Legacy-Something of value to be remembered and revered or a result brought by ignorance and mistakes

Not everyone considers their legacy. They live until they die and for them that's enough. If they have children perhaps they see them as their legacy. It really depends on what we perceive a legacy to be.

Life is tough enough without having that morose bit of info preying on those developing minds. At that time in our lives we need to see ourselves as immortal with bright futures ahead. Legacy denotes after the fact, after our time, after our usefulness, post stardom and can even refer to of series of ex-lovers, ex-wives or ex-husbands. We might mistakenly expect legacies to be inherently positive or, at the very least, useful. Oh, grow up!

The legacy of Harvey Weinstein appears to be that of sexual crimes against women and not successful film production. The legacy of the Catholic Church in Boston, the Vatican and other Diocese around the world is the cover-up of sexual misconduct by the clergy and not the nurturing of the body of the church. By citing those 2 examples I am not suggesting everything is similarly dark and trending toward doom, but one must consider what remains behind as memories and that actions or non-action have consequences which could very well mark that moment in time as the turning point or be only a footnote in history. We live in just such a time.

We are connected to one another as never before in history. If an ISIS terrorist farts in the desert we hear about it via the 24/7 news feeds around the world. If a random shooter goes on a rampage in Texas we see the cell phone footage as well as the photos on Instagram or Facebook before it appears on CNN, MSNBC, Al Jazeera , BBC World Service, Reuters, The Associated Press, TASS and even, perhaps, Fox Headline News (However on Fox News most of the shows are only broadcasting to the WH), Opinions are formed fast and usually without much personal research to verify the accuracy of what we are seeing or hearing. On the other hand who is going to interpret what that legacy might be?

In these days of trump and Pelosi and all the rest of the players supposedly at the helm of the ship of state here in the US the only legacy will be one of separatism and disunity. trump golfed as Pelosi burned and we all went down together? Ask a trumpian and it is the best of times. Ask a non trumpain the same thing and it is the worst of times. The rest as undecided will have to wait in political purgatory for the truth to become evident. We aren't dead yet so perhaps the legacy hasn't been established. We can only hope.

Even living with the threat of nuclear attack and a potential Communist world war (Cuban missile crisis) we felt there was an incredible future ahead of us. So we felt they did the hard work, that being WWII and Korea so we would have the best chance for a far better life than they had. No one could foresee all that would follow. By the time I was getting ready to graduate from high school youth were  taking to the streets rebelling against the establishment that was in control. But that had nothing to do with their legacy or did it? We were too young to realize we were well on our way to becoming the establishment.

With age we have the experience to analyse what our parents left behind for us. They were successful in some ways. We've had those better lives they hoped we would enjoy but perhaps that was due to other circumstances rather than the victories won in the 1940's and early 50's. But much of what could become catastrophic for our children and grandchildren had it's unwitting start back then as a result of wartime industrialization.

Yes. I finally got to it. Climate and the impending affects of our neglect will change how life is lived on this planet if what we do not make some radical changes...and that means NOW.

I am no scientist nor am I a "green freak". I can read and I do believe what I see and hear. Sticking one's head in the sand and knowing you might not be here by the time the point of no return has been reached and crossed is not going to cut it. More people are living to be 100 than ever before. You might be one of the lucky ones and get to watch the oceans rise and the coasts become a little further inland. You may also get to experience several back to back category 5 hurricanes a year ripping up the gulf and east coasts. How about those killer typhoons in the Pacific and so much more.

Image result for fields of flowers photosI have difficulty understanding the naysayers and those who claim there is a massive climate change hoax being perpetrated on the entire planet.  Are they trying to tell us that all the top scientists in the world are colluding and that their science isn't scientifically accurate because they are secretly working for those noisy windmill energy generator companies? Get a grip. Look to where the moneys flows from. It certainly isn't from the makers of windmills. I note the billowing stench of the fossil fuel and iron and steel lobbies attempting to cloud the issues. No matter. Their legacy is already established...as is the tobacco industry's. No glory to be forwarded there. Theirs is but a cautionary tale. The question with the current and impending climate changes is who will be left to hear the story?

OK. So it's time to act...or at least become informed. You know in your heart there is truth being told here. If you have kids you don't want their children or grandchildren removing their gas masks and asking what they did in the fight for clean air and water.  Promote awareness and do your part.

Let's make our legacy one of caring for our world. It's the only home we have and we have not been taking great care of it.
