I Saw My Gut Today Oh Boy or Scoping things out

Ever see more of yourself than you ever really wanted? I don't mean bent over naked toweling off your feet with your butt facing a full length mirror and happening to spot the dot through your legs. I mean being visually privy to a place that God never intended you to see without several years of medical school training or EMS credentials and certainly not on your own body.
Hello endoscopy! There are different names for the devices and they can do different things but in this modern age they all can creep and shoot photos or video of the inner workings of your personal plumbing! Modern medical science or just a highly educated Peeping Tom? I guess it depends on which end of the scope you are in contact with!
Now don't get me wrong. Scopes can save lives in regards to early diagnosis of cancers and spotting benign tumors and growths in the very same places.
I can proudly say I've been scoped from both ends on a regular basis, but do I want or need the pictures? Am I going to post them on FaceBook or share slides at the next family outing? Silly me. Of course people do. They already share their entire personal life with strangers and friends (who really don't want to read the travails of current constipation, genital warts or the 3000th selfie taken while driving their car in rush hour traffic) why not throw in a fun photo of their colon or esophagus?
Is it the way the doctor proves he did the procedure ("See here's the photographic evidence, so let's not quibble and how about you pay your bill!")? Who knows? How can I tell? Is that really my esophageal opening in that picture? Can you prove that? Hah! I bet you can't. I still have to pay? Ok, ok. It was worth a try.
Anyway, the one I had today went ok. Results were normal and I have no complaints. Don't put off getting one if you are 50 or over. Whether you wind up on a 5 or 10 year schedule a colonoscopy can save your life. Hey. They knock you out anyway, so you won't remember anything about it.  Be safe. Be healthy.
